Let´s talk a little bit about Thanksgiving. It happens every year at the end of November and Americans all over the world celebrate it. It always takes place on the fourth Thursday of November. In the US, schools, government offices and the majority of companies, shut down to give their workers a four-day weekend.

How do we celebrate it at San Luis de los Franceses? By talking about the importance of expressing gratitude for everything that God has blessed us with. This starts early at the Kindergarten level and continues through the life lessons we teach in our secondary school.

What exactly are we celebrating? It is a feast to give thanks for the abundance of the previous harvest. In the US this dates back to the 1600s.

When was the 1st Thanksgiving celebrated? It probably dates back to 1621 when the first settlers, Pilgrims, from Plymouth Colony (today´s Massachusetts), first commemorated this day.

What is the traditional Thanksgiving meal? It is a turkey, stuffing and vegetables finished off with pumpkin pie

What does an American do during Thanksgiving? Your typical day revolves around hanging out with your family members, watching American football and catching parts of the Thanksgiving Day Parade on T.V. When I say parade I´m referring to the three-hour event televised from NYC featuring floats, costumes and cartoon figures that started back in 1924.
